How do you begin to write an artist statement about an awful disease? How do you put the pain of another person in your own words? This isn’t just a piece of art to drape on the wall, for an audience to gawk at. This is someone’s present life including their forever future. You can not simply contextualize a deteriorating brain into a stuffy statement. So where does that leave us? With an unwritten statement? Look at the scribbled words alongside the lesion-ridden brain. Those thoughts point the viewer to everything they lack to comprehend. Don’t listen to me, I have not endured what is exposed in the cotton cloth. See within the piece and understand the grief, anger, and suffering exhausting between each word.
